Work Schedule
This is a full-time, 12-month administrative position. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday during regular college business hours (typically between 8:15 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.).
This position requires a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends, to support college events, community engagement activities, and operational needs.

Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance.

Reynolds seeks an ambitious, innovative, and student-centered leader to serve as the Dean of the School of Business and Industrial Trades (SBIT). The Dean provides strategic, academic, and administrative leadership for a diverse portfolio of programs, including:

  • Automotive
  • Business, Accounting, and Marketing
  • Culinary Arts
  • Criminal Justice
  • Paralegal Studies
  • Welding

The Dean plays a critical role in advancing the college’s strategic priorities by strengthening transfer pathways, expanding workforce-aligned programming, and fostering partnerships with industry, K-12 systems, and four-year institutions.
This position reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and serves as a key member of the Academic Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership for all academic, operational, and strategic functions within the School of Business and Industrial Trades.
  • Recruit, supervise, support, and evaluate faculty and staff, fostering a culture of instructional excellence, innovation, and professional growth.
  • Lead program development, review, and continuous improvement to ensure alignment with workforce demands, transfer pathways, and student success outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with employers, K-12 systems, and four-year institutions to expand opportunities for students, including dual enrollment and articulation agreements.
  • Oversee enrollment management, scheduling, curriculum development, and delivery across multiple instructional modalities (in-person, hybrid, and online).
  • Manage school budgets, resources, grants, and instructional assets to ensure effective and compliant operations.
  • Collaborate across college divisions—including student affairs, advancement, and operations—to support student success and institutional goals.
  • Support assessment, accreditation, and institutional effectiveness initiatives, including student learning outcomes and program evaluation.
  • Lead marketing and outreach efforts to promote programs and increase enrollment and community engagement.
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in higher education, including supervision of faculty and staff.
  • Knowledge of community college administration, curriculum development, and instructional delivery across modalities.
  • Experience building partnerships with employers, K-12 systems, and four-year institutions.
  • Experience with budgeting, resource management, and program oversight.
  • Experience in program development, assessment, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience collaborating across institutional divisions, including student affairs.

  • Doctorate in a relevant discipline or in higher education.
  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Progressive leadership experience in community college administration.
  • Experience designing transfer and workforce programs with stackable credentials.

Required Travel
Occasional local and regional travel is required to support partnerships with K-12 school systems, four-year institutions, and industry partners, as well as to attend meetings, conferences, and community engagement events. Limited statewide travel may also be required in support of system initiatives and professional development activities.
