| Duties and Responsibilities | Salary Range: $105,000 – $115,000 Benefits Information: https://www.luc.edu/hr/benefits/ The Department of Computer Science in the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University Chicago seeks qualified candidates for an appointment as Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2026. The department is based at Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus and comprises 12 tenure-track and 6 non-tenure-track faculty members serving over 500 undergraduate majors, 50 minors, 150 master’s students, and 10 doctoral students across computer science, software engineering, cybersecurity, data science, and information technology programs. The department maintains an active research program with recent funding from NSF, NIH, and other agencies and foundations, and launched its PhD program in Fall 2023, reflecting the university’s recent R1 classification and strong institutional investment in the department’s research capacity. We welcome candidates with strong research expertise and teaching interest in all aspects of modern software engineering, particularly at its intersection with AI. Areas of interest include AI-enabled software development and agentic systems, automated software engineering, software security and trustworthy systems, quality assurance and testing, software architecture, formal methods, and research addressing any phase of the software development lifecycle. We value diverse research methodologies, including empirical studies, mining software repositories, controlled experiments, qualitative methods, human factors research, and mixed methods approaches. This search is part of a College-wide, multiyear hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding researchers and teachers who are prepared to contribute to a culture of inclusion, committed to interdisciplinarity, dedicated to the pursuit of external grants, and appreciative of a Jesuit, Catholic education. This position involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in software engineering and related areas, including introductory programming, requirements analysis, quality assurance and testing, software architecture, mobile and web development, distributed and cloud computing, and human-centered design and interaction. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to develop new courses aligned with their research expertise. As part of one of the four pillar areas of our PhD program, this position is expected to contribute to research and teaching connections with the adjacent pillars (Systems and AI) and other areas, including Cybersecurity, Data Science, and Scientific Computing. The successful candidate is expected to pursue a strong, externally funded research program, contribute to our growing doctoral program, and engage in service at the department level or above. |

| Additional Salary Information | This salary range is for a nine-month academic appointment. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree; training; field or discipline; budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs. Salaries higher than the published maximums may be offered in limited circumstances. |
