Position Summary:


Job Summary
The Clinical Support Assistant supports the Infection Prevention Department by monitoring hand hygiene and transmission-based precaution compliance throughout the medical center. This position conducts direct observations of healthcare personnel entering and exiting patient rooms, documents compliance data, and provides respectful real-time reminders to support safe infection prevention practices.
Key Responsibilities


  • Conducts direct observations of hand hygiene and personal protective equipment (PPE) use.


  • Monitors compliance with transmission-based precautions.


  • Accurately records and enters observation data into compliance monitoring systems.


  • Meets departmental targets for required monthly observations.


  • Provides professional, real-time reminders and coaching to support infection prevention practices.


  • Communicates any concerning observations to Infection Prevention staff.


  • Assists with quality improvement initiatives related to hand hygiene and infection prevention.


  • Maintains professionalism when interacting with patients, visitors, and healthcare team members.


  • Participates in required training, education, and departmental meetings.

  • Strong observation and documentation skills.


  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain attention to detail.


  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.


  • Ability to work independently in a healthcare environment.


Work Schedule
Part-time position. Schedule may vary to support observation coverage across hospital units.


Position Qualification:


Education


  • High School Diploma or GED preferred (or equivalent experience).


  • High School Diploma preferred.


Experience


  • Previous healthcare or observational experience preferred.


  • 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience or equivalent education preferred.


Licensure/Certification


  • None required.


Language Skills


  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.


Mathematical Skills


  • Basic mathematical skills required, including the ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide by 10s and 100s.
