Clinical Laboratory Microbiology Medical Director
ARUP Laboratories, Department of Pathology, University of Utah School of Medicine

The Department of Pathology at the University of Utah School of Medicine and ARUP Laboratories is inviting applications from individuals with a strong interest in building an academic career in Clinical Laboratory Microbiology. Applicants should hold either an MD, MD/PhD, or PhD degree with board certification or board eligibility in Medical Microbiology.
ARUP is a comprehensive, high-complexity reference laboratory that serves a diverse clientele. Our clients include over half of the nation’s university teaching hospitals, children’s hospitals, major commercial laboratories, military and government facilities, and numerous community hospitals. As a result, our laboratory receives a wide variety of specimen types and testing requests. We provide an extensive range of testing options, encompassing both traditional techniques and specialized, esoteric testing in the field of laboratory diagnostics.
The successful candidate will serve as the Director of Parasitology. Experience and expertise in advanced molecular diagnostics, antigen detection and/or serologic testing is desirable. Primary responsibilities include clinical test result interpretation and reporting; quality control and assurance; laboratory test development; teaching and training of fellows and residents; and committee service. The ideal candidate will have a strong clinical and academic background appropriate to their level of training and experience, as well as excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Academic rank and compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments.
