The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The Clinical Coordinator III will work as the endoscopy nurse under the direction of the Medical Director and Nurse Manager, as well as administratively with the Divisional Administrator and Practice Administrator, to perform all duties associated with the provision of effective and comprehensive nursing care to patients and their families in the endoscopy suite at ColumbiaDoctors Midtown. Provides nursing expertise during endoscopy procedures and recovery. Provides coverage for endoscopy technician as required.
Responsibilities
- Assess patients before consultation and treatment by the Attending Physician.
- Obtain appropriate intake history, and physical, review laboratory results, provide discharge instructions and patient education and monitor follow-up appointments.
- Provide safe and accurate administration of medication, intravenous fluids in accordance with physician orders and nursing standards.
- Establish intravenous access for administration of medication, intravenous fluids.
- Administer IV medications per physician?s order.
- Perform physical, psychological and cognitive status assessments of patients.
- Monitor patient?s vital signs, comfort and clinical status during procedure and recovery; record data prior to, at intervals during, and following the procedure; and perform interruptible tasks such as assisting with biopsy or polypectomy.
- Perform pre-procedural assessment including levels of sedation and pharmacology of sedative and reversal agents.
- Monitor patient and the recognize complications; provide basic life support, establishing and maintaining an adequate airway, recording vital signs and medications used.
- Provide recovery room coverage as needed.
- Provide coverage for endoscopy technician and re-process endoscopes when necessary.
- Identify and correct problems as appropriate with all critical occurrences reported to the next level of authority.
- Maintain all medication and security records related to each patient.
- Assist the Nurse Manager in ensuring that safety equipment is properly maintained, e.g., Automated External Defibrillator (AED), crash cart.
- Assist the Nurse Manager for maintenance and storage of medication, syringe, and catheter inventory.
- Assist the Nurse Manager in the maintenance of records required for continued accreditation of the outpatient endoscopy suite, e.g., logs of endoscopes.
- Assists the Nurse Manager in monitoring medical supply usage in endoscopy suite and communicates ordering and appropriate restocking.
- Support the Nurse Manager in the smooth and efficient patient flow in endoscopy suite.
- Conduct courtesy calls to patients day after endoscopy.
- Conform to all applicable HIPAA, OSHA, Infection Control and safety guidelines.
- Ensure patient centered care by demonstrating behaviors that reflect a Culture of Service and will strive to meet the expectations of the ?Seven Competencies?.
- Perform other responsibilities as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training and/or experience, plus four years of nursing experience
- Current NYS RN License and BLS and ACLS Certification
- Excellent communication skills and maintain confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines
- Must display courtesy and empathy toward patients, coworkers and physicians
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- Ability to make sound judgments and execute the appropriate-actions based on the needs of the patients and knowledge of facility policies and procedures
Preferred Qualifications
Prior endoscopy room experience
Other Requirements
- Physical Demands: ability to move around freely; ability to assist in the lifting of physically compromised patients; possess sufficient visual and auditory acuity to perform tasks related to the patients; sit, stand, bend and walk intermittently throughout the day; ability to lift patients and supplies
- Participation in Medical Surveillance Program
- Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
- Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
- Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
