About the Job
This position will co-create and facilitate a three-day workshop focused on improving language teaching. Specifically, they will:
• Design and co-facilitate a three-day interactive workshop for second language educators that is aligned with research-based practices in second language acquisition.
• Create materials for participating language teachers to adapt for use in the classroom with their students.
• Model high engagement teaching practices during the workshop.
• Provide practical strategies that teachers can adapt to various language levels, age groups, and teaching contexts.
• Develop shareable resources and activity ideas for teachers to use/adapt in their classroom.
• Create bibliography of research-based resources for further reading.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Education, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, World Languages, or a related field.
• 3+ experience teaching a language other than English.
• 3+ years of experience providing workshops to language teachers.
• Proven experience incorporating research-based approaches in the language classroom.
• Strong understanding of second language acquisition theory and best practices.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience teaching a CARLA Summer Institute.
• Doctorate in Education, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, World Languages, or a related field.
• Proven experience in implementing the institute topic in a language education setting.
• Proven experience creating and facilitating language teacher training programs.
• Experience working with diverse learners, including multilingual or heritage language students.
• Familiarity with digital tools that support language learning.
About the Department
The Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA) is a Title VI Language Resource Center devoted to improving language teaching and learning.
CARLA’s mission is to study multilingualism and multiculturalism, to develop knowledge of second language acquisition, and to advance the quality of second language teaching, learning, and assessment by:
• conducting research and action projects
• sharing research-based and other forms of knowledge across disciplines and education systems
• extending, exchanging, and applying this knowledge in the wider society
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: Total salary between $1,200 - $3,600.
Retirement plan options are available for Civil Service, Faculty, Labor-Represented, Professional & Administrative, and Temp Casual classifications. Learn more about retirement plans .
