Department of Orthopaedic Surgery
University of California, San Francisco
The Associate Specialist will conduct independent and collaborative research in adult stem cell biology and tissue regeneration, with a focus on molecular mechanisms regulating muscle stem cell (satellite cell) fate decisions, aging-associated decline in regeneration, and skeletal muscle repair.
The incumbent will design, execute, and optimize complex in vitro and in vivo studies using murine and human models to investigate pathways governing muscle regeneration and cellular stress responses. Responsibilities include developing experimental strategies, performing advanced molecular and cellular techniques (including FACS, RNA sequencing, proteomics, imaging, and transgenic mouse models), analyzing and interpreting high-dimensional datasets, and integrating findings into translational orthopaedic research applications.
The Associate Specialist will contribute substantially to manuscript preparation, grant development, and presentation of research findings at national and international scientific conferences. The incumbent will also provide mentorship and technical training to junior laboratory members and assist with laboratory operations, including protocol development (IACUC, BUA), regulatory compliance, and coordination with UCSF core facilities.
