| Job Summary | This is an Internal Employment Opportunity The Department of Chemistry invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Assistant Professor of Teaching position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head. Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; however, appointment at a promoted rank may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate. This Professor of Teaching will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Chemistry, advise and mentor students, conduct research relevant to Chemistry and education, and provide service to the department, College of Science, and OSU in the form of committee work and other activities. This is for a 12-month appointment to start in the fall. This is a renewable position and may be eligible for promotion upon achievement of the eligibility criteria and demonstration of a sustained record of achievement and evidence of professional growth and innovation in research, teaching and assigned duties. |

Faculty are expected to teach the equivalent of 8 courses (9-month appointment), or 10 courses (12-month appointment). · Teach assigned courses · Prepare and deliver courses, interact with students, supervise TAs, grade assessments, develop and maintain the course materials, hold regular office hours, contribute to curricular development, incorporate content connecting to societal impact. · Advise or mentor students with focus on career preparation and success · Scholarship and professional development: may include the following: · Lead or participate in seminars, workshops and other training events · Develop or contribute to instructional materials or resources · Publish/disseminate work on evidence-based instruction in the department, OSU, or broader community 15% – Research Develop and maintain a research program Disseminate research results by publication in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at scientific meetings, and other forms of scholarship. Advance the University’s research agenda in areas relevant to Chemistry and/or pedagogy. 10% Service: May include the following: · Participate on departmental, college, and university committees · Outreach · Professional service activities such as: o Committee or leadership role in professional associations/societies o Serve on research, advisory, or review panels o Review journal manuscripts, proposals, or external course materials o Organize or chair conferences or conference sessions |
| What You Will Need | Ph.D. in Chemistry or an allied discipline. Evidence of knowledge of a broad range of general chemistry. Demonstrated achievement in or significant potential for teaching excellence. Evidence of or significant potential for working effectively as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to foster an inclusive and accessible learning environment. Demonstrated potential to conduct research and scholarly work (in chemistry and/or educational research), and the ability to articulate a planned program of research. This faculty appointment will generally be at the Assistant Professor of Teaching rank. However, appointment at the Associate or Full Professor of Teaching rank may be considered for current OSU faculty that hold Senior Instructor II rank AND (1) if their position has consistently included scholarship as part of their assigned duties, and (2) research and scholarship have been regularly reviewed through annual evaluations and considered as a factor in prior promotions. This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months. |
| What We Would Like You to Have | Experience as an instructor for in-person and/or online courses. Experience with curriculum development. Interest in developing new undergraduate and graduate courses in Chemistry. Evidence of scholarly work as demonstrated by any of the following: published manuscripts, professional society presentations, development of research applications, research funding. Evidence of effective communication skills. Evidence of potential for effective service to the university and profession. |
