The Coastal Carolina University Department of Sociology invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Criminology, beginning Fall 2026. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Sociology or a closely related field by the time of appointment. In addition to teaching general sociology courses, the successful candidate must be able to teach lower- and upper-level courses in Criminology, Sociology, and Criminal Justice, including courses in quantitative methods.
 
The candidate should also have evidence of excellent teaching and scholarly productivity, experiential learning, and community/public engagement. Critical criminology scholars and those who are able to support a focus on social inequalities, particularly applicants with expertise in quantitative approaches to the study of crime and justice, are strongly encouraged to apply.
 
The Department offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in Sociology and Criminal Justice. We also support minors and concentrations in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Medicine and Health, Social Justice, and Sociology. This highly collaborative and active department encourages close-knit classroom experiences and promotes experiential learning that highlights faculty areas of expertise and research. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to student learning and inclusive pedagogy.
