The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine seeks an exceptional candidate for a full time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Biomedical Engineering. The successful candidate will lead and contribute to innovative research involving the design, development, and evaluation of biomedical devices and technologies. This role requires expertise in creating novel engineering solutions, conducting complex experimental research, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to advance scientific discovery and translational outcomes.

 


Summary

The Assistant Professor will support departmental and external research initiatives by designing, manufacturing, and testing biomedical devices that advance clinical and research objectives. The faculty members will also oversee the operations, equipment, scheduling, and project workflow of the Biomedical Engineering Core, contributing to the expansion and enhancement of service offerings.


Job Duties
  • Design and improve biomedical equipment and devices that enhance medical and surgical outcomes.
  • Test, refine, and evaluate existing medical devices; develop prototypes and new product concepts.
  • Collaborate with investigators, clinicians, and research teams to interpret technical requirements and translate them into engineering solutions.
  • Plan, conduct, and oversee experimental design and research studies.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA regulations, institutional policies, and safety standards.
  • Perform data analysis, interpret results, and prepare technical reports, publications, and documentation.
  • Conduct literature reviews and synthesize findings relevant to ongoing research.
  • Utilize or develop software tools for device testing, simulation, and evaluation.
  • Assist in developing procedures for evaluating new equipment and technologies.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to research teams and Core users.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Master's degree in Engineering or a closely related field
  • Experience: 10 years of relevant biomedical engineering experience
  • Certifications/Licensure: None required
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Ph.D. in Engineering or related biomedical discipline
