Job Description:

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the Grounds Supervisor and the Office of Facilities Management to oversee the daily workflow of all seasons.
  • Partner with leadership to identify talent gaps, assign work orders, and maintain weekly grounds keeping schedules.
  • Ensure the proper, safe, and efficient use of materials, equipment, and vehicles belonging to the University Grounds Department.
  • Maintain and perform PM Maintenance on Grounds equipment.
  • Demonstrate proper safety and procedures in the use of equipment and shop organization in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • Maintain any necessary credentials for the position, such as pesticide application certification.
  • Select the proper supplies and equipment for campus landscaping.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate, maintain, and clean Grounds equipment and shop.
  • Must be able to work and interact positively within a diverse, multi-cultural environment, and communicate with all members of the campus community in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Must be able to work professionally both individually and in a team setting.
  • Perform tasks assigned by the Grounds Supervisor relating to plant beds, turf maintenance, athletics fields, trash, leaves, road/sidewalk maintenance, and snow and/or ice removal, etc.
  • Work 40 hours per week. During weather events, be prepared to work additional hours.
  • Be temporarily assigned to other Facilities Management areas as needed.


Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of lawn maintenance equipment and ability to operate lawn mowers, string trimmers, etc. Applicant must possess a valid driver's license and have an MVR that passes the criteria set by our insurance carriers.  Must be able to utilize a computer, be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, and be capable of learning campus software systems.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Prior experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or general labor is helpful but not required
  • Willingness to learn and ability to perform the physical demands of the position required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and willingness to learn about campus trees, plants, grasses, flowers, etc. As well as proper care of athletic fields in accordance with NCAA standards.

Physical and Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals and grounds department equipment. 
  • Exposure to extreme weather conditions, allergies, plant poisons, and insects. 
  • May occasionally need to lift heavy items weighing up to 100 pounds.
