The Assistant Director of Teaching Effectiveness supports faculty across the university in enhancing their teaching practices and implementing innovative pedagogical approaches, including the responsible and effective integration of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI). This role focuses on designing and delivering high-quality faculty development programs, providing individualized teaching consultations, and promoting evidence-based instructional strategies that foster inclusive and engaging learning environments.
Working collaboratively with CETLOE colleagues and campus partners, the Assistant Director assists faculty in addressing teaching challenges, integrating technology effectively, and creating learning environments that support student success. This position requires strong knowledge of pedagogical best practices and the ability to translate educational research into practical applications for diverse teaching contexts.
This role is designed for emerging professionals who are building expertise in faculty development. The Assistant Director will focus on program delivery, faculty consultations, and advancing institutional teaching effectiveness initiatives while receiving mentorship and professional growth opportunities.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
Faculty Development Programming
• Design, develop, and facilitate professional development workshops, webinars, and events focused on active learning strategies, high-impact teaching practices, and pedagogical innovation.
• Develop and manage faculty fellowship or cohort-based programs that promote sustained engagement with teaching excellence initiatives.
• Create resources and toolkits that support collaborative learning, experiential education, and writing-intensive course design.
• Coordinate teaching-focused initiatives such as symposia, teaching showcases, and peer learning opportunities.
Individual Faculty Support and Consultation
• Provide one-on-one consultations to assist faculty in addressing teaching challenges and implementing innovative instructional approaches.
• Guide faculty through backward course design processes to align learning objectives, assessments, and instructional strategies.
• Support faculty in integrating educational technologies that enhance student engagement and learning outcomes, including emerging AI tools.
• Promote inclusive teaching practices, culturally responsive pedagogy, and universal design for learning principles.
Assessment and Evaluation Support
• Assist faculty in developing effective course-level assessment strategies aligned with student learning outcomes.
• Support faculty in interpreting assessment data to inform continuous teaching improvement.
• Provide guidance on formative and summative assessment techniques.
• Assist faculty in documenting teaching effectiveness for promotion and tenure materials.
Collaboration and Institutional Engagement
• Partner with CETLOE units including course and program design, multimedia, communications, learning analytics, and learning technology teams.
• Contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives that advance teaching excellence across the university.
• Participate in institutional committees and working groups related to teaching and learning.
• Support the Director of Teaching Effectiveness in strategic planning and program development initiatives.

Qualifications
:
Minimum Hiring Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and five years of supervisory/management experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
Preferred Hiring Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in education, instructional design, higher education, educational technology, or a related field; or a terminal degree and a minimum of three years contributing to educational development programs in higher education is STRONGLY preferred.
• Experience supporting faculty development, teaching effectiveness initiatives, or instructional innovation in higher education or a related environment.
• Knowledge of evidence-based pedagogical practices and adult learning principles.
• Experience facilitating workshops, consultations, or professional learning programs.
• Strong facilitation, presentation, and consultation skills.
• Ability to translate educational research into practical teaching strategies.
• Excellent collaboration and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organizational and project management abilities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
