| Essential Job Duties | North Carolina State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in translational omics at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This position is a key component of the Translational Kidney Health Center of Excellence, an initiative designed to integrate clinical nephrology with advanced mechanistic research to accelerate discovery in kidney health across species. This position represents the discovery and biomarker Identification pillar of the Translational Kidney Health Center of Excellence. The successful candidate will develop an innovative, externally funded research program that applies multi-omics technologies to identify molecular pathways and biomarkers associated with kidney disease progression. Areas of emphasis may include, but are not limited to: proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, genomics or transcriptomics, and systems biology and integrative bioinformatics. In this role you will leverage NC State’s unique clinical nephrology caseload and biobank of well-characterized samples to identify early diagnostic biomarkers and novel therapeutic targets relevant to both companion animals and humans. As a faculty member, you will establish strong interdisciplinary collaborations with clinicians within the Veterinary Nephrology and Urology Service and with investigators in genomics, bioinformatics, engineering, and systems biology across campus. Additional collaborative opportunities exist with investigators at Duke University and the UNC Kidney Center. This is an exceptional opportunity to build a high-impact research program that integrates clinical observation, molecular discovery, and translational medicine. This is an exceptional opportunity for a creative and forward-thinking investigator to advance both human and animal health through excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate will contribute to the education of veterinary and graduate students, mentor trainees at multiple levels, and help expand the College’s national and international reputation in comparative and translational medicine. We seek a dynamic scholar whose work will build upon existing institutional strengths while opening new scientific frontiers within the College of Veterinary Medicine. Duties and Responsibilities: ● Apply cutting-edge scientific knowledge and advanced experimental methodologies to develop impactful solutions for complex kidney diseases affecting both animals and humans. ● Develop and sustain an innovative, independently funded research program in translational omics and biomarker discovery. ● Apply advanced multi-omic technologies to identify molecular pathways and biomarkers associated with CKD and AKI. ● Leverage NC State’s extensive clinical nephrology caseload and biobanking resources to enable high-impact translational research. ● Collaborate with faculty in molecular physiology, engineering, genomics, and computational biology to integrate omics data with mechanistic studies. ● Secure extramural funding (e.g., NIH R01, USDA AFRI, foundation, and industry-sponsored research). ● Mentor DVM students, PhD students, DVM-PhD trainees, postdoctoral fellows, and clinical house officers. Participate in graduate and professional teaching in areas such as systems biology, translational omics, renal physiology, and comparative diagnostics. ● Engage in interdisciplinary center-building initiatives including collaborative program project or center-level grant development. ● Promote comparative medicine by translating discoveries from veterinary patients to human health applications. ● Contribute to the national and international visibility of the College of Veterinary Medicine through scholarship and collaboration. ● Clinical duty within the Nephrology-Urology service if desired (up to 5 weeks per year). This is an exceptional opportunity for a creative and forward-thinking investigator to advance both human and animal health through excellence in research and teaching. If you are exited about contributing to the education of veterinary and graduate students, mentor trainees at multiple levels, and help expand the College’s national and international reputation in comparative and translational medicine. We seek a dynamic scholar whose work will build upon existing institutional strengths while opening new scientific frontiers within the College of Veterinary Medicine. |
| Other Responsibilities | This position will significantly enhance the College of Veterinary Medicine’s research, teaching, and translational missions. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines to build an internationally recognized program in translational omics and biomarker discovery. Specific expectations include:
Collaborating with molecular physiology and translational immunology faculty within the TKHC to translate omics discoveries into mechanistic and therapeutic advances. |
