Description
The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of New England (http://www.une.edu/wchp/pt/ ) is currently inviting applications for a core faculty member classified at the rank of Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor with primary responsibilities in teaching. The position is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track appointment. Application review will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The desired start date is May, but is negotiable. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications.
UNE is a private, co-educational institution with two campuses on the southern Maine coast and a third campus in Tangier, Morocco. The Department of Physical Therapy is based on the historic Portland campus alongside health professions training programs in dental hygiene, dental medicine, nursing, nurse anesthesia, occupational therapy, osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, and physician assistant. Interprofessional education and service learning opportunities are hallmarks of campus culture. Responsibilities
Under general direction of the DPT Program Director, core faculty are responsible for teaching aspects of the entry-level DPT curriculum, performing service to the department, college, university, and/or profession, and engaging in scholarship activities. Primary teaching responsibilities may include involvement in courses related to foundational physical therapy skills and knowledge, psychosocial issues, management and leadership, or acute/general medical care provision, depending on candidate skills, interest, and knowledge. Knowledge and skills related to the integumentary and/or musculoskeletal systems are highly desired.
The department faculty maintain active collaborations within the college and university; with clinicians, researchers, scholars, and service organizations in the local community; and with investigators from around the country and globe. Teaching resources and support for faculty to advance their teaching skills and mentorship are available across the university and in the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (https://www.une.edu/cetl ).
Qualifications
Required:
  • Physical therapist licensed to practice in the US
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Maine
  • Earned doctoral degree (i.e., DPT or terminal academic degree)
  • Minimum three years of full-time post-licensure clinical practice
  • Proficiency with basic technology, including use of MS Excel, Adobe, Outlook and Word
  • Strong and effective oral and written communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills involving multiple stakeholders (e.g., students, peers and University colleagues)

Preferred:
  • Terminal academic degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, DSc, or DHSc)
  • Academic experience in a DPT entry-level educational program
  • Understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for teaching in physical therapy education
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting students and the profession of physical therapy
  • Experience with supervising physical therapy students in a clinical setting
  • Integumentary, Musculoskeletal, or Cardiopulmonary expertise preferred, but not required
  • American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) Certification
  • Potential to pursue programmatic initiatives aligned with expertise and experience
  • Knowledge of current national trends in physical therapy and physical therapy education
  • Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels
