Description

The Air Force Institute of Technology is offering a graduate research fellowship in aeronautical engineering at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

What will I be doing?

As an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers to conduct research related to the electric propulsion of transport aircraft. Your research activities will be designed to connect theory and practice, with specific project matches determined by your academic experience and professional interests.

Why should I apply?

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will gain hands-on experience to complement your education and support your academic and professional goals. Along the way, you will engage in activities and research in several areas. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Learning about aircraft systems engineering and systems analysis to support integrated design and performance assessment.
  • Participating in aircraft design trade studies with a focus on propulsion–airframe integration and technology selection.
  • Participating in aircraft operations trade studies to evaluate economic viability and military effectiveness.
  • Developing and applying analytical skills to predict installed propulsion system performance, including hybrid-electric configurations, and associated flight envelope limits.
  • Gaining experience in the evaluation of aircraft mission performance using modeling and simulation to assess operational capability across representative missions.

Where will I be located?

Dayton, Ohio

What is the anticipated start date?

Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.
