Job Description


Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
This position provides administrative clerical support to the campus Business Manager and administrative support in all aspects of the Business Office, to include all revenue due and collections.
Functional Responsibilities:
The Administrative and Office Specialist III will perform a variety of tasks:

  • Reviewing Travel and Professional Development for correctness and completeness
  • Assisting and training admin assistants with travel and professional development when needed
  • Creating EVA orders.
  • Assisting and training admin assistants in EVA when needed
  • Assisting students and the general public by answering inquires related to fiscal policies and the operation of the Business Office.
  • Collect tuition and fee revenue due to the college to include local funds for various student activities and past due financial aid receivables.
  • Review tuition refund reports
  • Review approved tuition assistance documents and attach students to third party contracts
  • Process HRT bus passes, Meal Plans, and StormDollar deposits
  • Back-up duplicating tech and mailroom clerk
  • Perform all other duties and tasks that may be assigned by the Business Manager/Cashier Office Supervisor
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Ability to organize and prioritize diverse duties in a customer service environment.
  • Experience in bookkeeping, business, industry, retail sales, or banking.
  • Experience in cashiering functions including handling large sums of money.
  • Ability to review and interpret contracts.
  • Ability to create documents and manipulate data in word processing and spread sheet software (such as MS Word, MS Excel).
  • Ability to monitoring budgets using accounting system, spreadsheets or databases.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a diverse clientele.
  • Knowledge of effective customer service and problem solving techniques

Additional Considerations
  • Education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Knowledge of state policies and procedures governing travel and purchase actions.
  • Experience in a college or university finance office
