Description
Adjunct Faculty within the College of Professional Studies (CPS) are critical to the success of UNE’s online programs. The role of the faculty in CPS is to facilitate the learning process for online students through timely and effective instruction and communication. Instructors also serve as mentors, sharing their experience to help guide students and ensure they achieve their educational and professional goals. The faculty facilitates the retention of students through creating a positive educational environment, allowing for students to derive the maximum benefits from the program in which they are enrolled. Instructors will receive supervision, collaboration, and guidance from the UNE Online Science Prerequisites for the Health Professions (SPHP) Program.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert, graduate-level knowledge in Microbiology
  • Guide students through their educational experience while upholding the CPS commitment to student success
  • Respond to student inquiries in a timely manner (within 24 hours)
  • Facilitate class instruction by engaging in the online course portal a minimum of five times per week
  • Host at least one hour of virtual office hours per week
  • Demonstrate excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Analyze and apply best practices in online Microbiology education
Qualifications
  • Experience teaching online in an educational setting, with demonstrated expertise in curriculum development and assessment, and a passion for teaching Microbiology
  • Master’s degree in Microbiology or a related field required; PhD preferred
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience in Microbiology
  • Ability to motivate and encourage students in academic and professional settings
  • Expertise in online teaching and a willingness to learn and apply new technological approaches to education
  • Experience using the Brightspace/D2L Learning Management System preferred
