Position Information
Reporting to the Acquisitions, Description, and Discovery (ADD) Director, is responsible for providing day-to-day operational support for the acquisitions, cataloging, and metadata creation functions of the department. Supervises eight staff who perform a variety of duties, including ordering, receiving, invoicing, claiming, copy cataloging, original cataloging, and metadata creation for digital objects. Helps to establish and modify procedures and workflows in consultation with an ADD librarian and other library staff and librarians, as required. The Acquisitions, Description, and Discovery department was recently formed due to the merger of the Acquisitions unit and the Metadata and Technical Services department.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California Vaccination Program Policy.

Generic Scope
Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees. Functions as advisor to unit and administration. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.

Supervises staff Library Professionals and Library Assistants who are performing complex library duties and responsibilities. Provides direction to subordinates on policies and practices that often do not have clear guidelines. May also supervise students. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the unit. Work is performed independently within a framework of established guidelines. Exercises initiative, originality, and judgment in applying established library principles and practices to new and unusual problems, OR supervises students and Library Assistants who are performing routine and/or largely operational duties as part of the overall operations of a library AND spends a significant portion of the time personally performing duties indicative of the Library Professional 3 level, where duties and assignments are defined by broad objectives and involve a high degree of difficulty in subject and/or functional specializations.

  • As supervisor operates as the functional expert in the specialization, such as circulation and reserves, collection, reference, interlibrary services, cataloging, monographic processing, or serials processing.
    Provides day-to-day operational supervision of the Acquisitions, Description and Discovery (ADD) department in collaboration with the Director.
  • Provides vision and administers efficient team leadership, assessment, continuous improvement and reporting. As supervisor, operates as a functional expert in acquisitions workflows, copy cataloging, original cataloging, and non-MARC metadata creation. Operates as a functional expert in the application of multiple content description and encoding standards. Operates as a functional expert is the use of cataloging tools, such as Alma Metadata Editor, OCLC Connexion, MarcEdit, etc.: 55%
  • Oversees staff performing, or personally performs, duties and assignments that involve a high degree of difficulty in subject and/or functional specialization.
