The role sits within Digital Build, who are responsible for the development, enhancement and ongoing support of the University’s website estate and selected partner sites. Based at the Lavington Street office in Southwark, the team plays a central role in enabling highquality digital experiences that reflect King’s strategic objectives and meet modern standards in accessibility, performance and usability.
About the role:
This fixedterm maternity cover role offers an opportunity for an experienced UX Designer to lead usercentred design across Digital Solutions, ensuring that digital products and journeys are shaped by evidence, bestpractice UX principles, and ongoing user testing. The post holder will collaborate closely with crossfunctional teams and marketing colleagues to review, design and enhance digital experiences, while also supporting the wider team through training, guidance and shared project work.
As the UX Designer, you will lead usercentred design activity across a broad portfolio of digital products, ensuring that design decisions are informed by robust user research, bestpractice UX principles and an understanding of audience needs. You will work closely with designers, developers, product owners, business analysts, and marketing colleagues to create coherent, accessible and userfocussed experiences. A core part of the role involves maintaining a strategic view of why functions, features or journeys exist, how they should work, and how value and impact will be measured.
The role requires planning and running user testing workshops with key audience groups, including prospective students, current students, academics, researchers and funders;to validate assumptions and optimise journeys. You will deliver clear, actionable insights that shape decisionmaking and ensure our products genuinely meet user expectations. You will also provide expert UX review across all Digital Solutions outputs, promoting best practice and championing usability, accessibility and consistency.
As an advocate for usercentricity, you will help embed a mature and sustainable UX culture within the department. This includes training colleagues on UX methods, tools and approaches, contributing to crossfunctional project work, and supporting the team to apply design thinking from initial brief through to delivery. You will also work closely with marketing teams, offering guidance on layout, structure and user experience across website content and campaign materials.
The role is suited to someone who is passionate about creating highquality digital experiences and confident in engaging with diverse stakeholders. You will be expected to work both independently and collaboratively, contributing expertise to your own projects as well as shared initiatives across the wider Digital Solutions portfolio. Above all, you will ensure that the needs, behaviours and expectations of our users remain at the heart of everything we design and deliver.
This is a full time / part time post 35 hours a week and you will be offered an a fixed term contract for 10 months
