About Us

We are seeking a motivated Research Assistant to work in the laboratory of Professor Brian Stramer on a Wellcome Trust funded project in collaboration with The University of Manchester Centre for Cell Matrix research.

​The Stramer group is based in Randall Centre for Cell & Molecular Biophysics, home to a diverse array of structural and cellular biology research, which is part of the School of Basic & Biomedical Sciences. We sit in the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine, which has a broad spectrum of research interests spanning fundamental biology, disease, and physiology. We are based at the Guy’s Campus of King’s College London situated in the heart of London.​


About the role

The goal of this project is to exploit Drosophila genetics to understand the role and regulation of the extracellular matrix during development and disease. The postholder will be responsible for overseeing the Drosophila laboratory, coordinating fly stocks, and helping perform day-to-day experiments.  They will gain experience with Drosophila genetics, molecular biology and advanced imaging techniques.

The successful candidate will have a BSc degree in cell, developmental biology or genetics and experience of working in a lab, and experience of working with or knowledge of Drosophila.

This is a part time post (20 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30th September 2026.  The post will be onsite.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • BSc degree in cell, developmental biology or genetics
  • Experience of working in a biological laboratory, including a capacity to analyse and interpret data.
  • Experience working with Drosophila or knowledge of Drosophila as a model organism
  • Experience working with microscopy
  • Strong communication skills – verbally and written
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office packages
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience with fine dissections under a stereomicroscope
  • Experience/knowledge of image analysis
