  • About You

    RMIT's School of Education is looking for an Associate Professor (Level D) to take a genuine leadership role across teaching, research, and industry engagement-particularly within teacher education and professional experience. A dedicated discipline area in STEM is desirable but not compulsory. This is not a passive academic role. You'll be expected to drive program quality, lift research performance, and shape the future direction of the discipline-internally and externally.

    What you'll actually do

    • Lead program excellence
      Drive innovation in teacher education programs, elevate academic standards, and embed student-centred learning design.

    • Build and lead research impact
      Develop and scale high-performing research teams, publish in quality outlets, and secure external funding.

    • Shape strategy and direction
      Play a key role in School and College planning, influencing decisions that matter.

    • Develop people
      Mentor academic staff and supervise HDR candidates to lift overall research and teaching capability.

    • Engage beyond the University
      Strengthen partnerships with industry, community and professional bodies to ensure relevance and impact.

    To be successful in this position, you'll have / you'll have as a minimum:

    • A PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline

    • A strong national research profile with emerging international recognition

    • Proven ability to lead programs and deliver teaching innovation

    • Track record of securing research funding and leading teams

    • Experience supervising HDR candidates successfully

    • High-level stakeholder engagement, influencing and communication skills

    • The ability to operate as a leader, not just a contributor
