About the Department   

The Department of Computer Science at UWA India will form an integral part of UWA’s academic community. It will offer various degrees in Computing with subjects across Computer Science, Philosophy and Statistics including software engineering, computer systems, cybersecurity, databases and data engineering, ethics and artificial intelligence, statistics, data science, and the Internet of Things. Staff will also be undertaking impactful world class research.  

Statistics

Statistics is a core disciplinary area within the Department of Computer Science at UWA India, supporting undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across computing, data science and interdisciplinary programs. The discipline focuses on statistical theory, data analysis and quantitative modelling to support evidence-based decision making in scientific, technological and organisational contexts. Teaching integrates statistical foundations with practical application, developing students’ capability to analyse data, interpret results and communicate insights, while emphasising rigour, ethical data use and real-world relevance. Graduates are prepared for further study and careers across data driven industries, research, government and emerging analytical fields. 

Discipline of Philosophy 

The Philosophy discipline is situated within the Department of Computer Science at UWA India. The discipline focuses on ethics and artificial intelligence, critical reasoning, and philosophical inquiry in contemporary technological contexts, with teaching that emphasises ethical analysis, critical thinking, and reflective judgement. Units apply philosophical frameworks to real-world challenges such as technology design, data use, and intelligent systems, preparing graduates to engage responsibly with complex professional and societal issues in technology-driven environments. The successful applicant must be willing and able to teach across a range of areas due to the interdisciplinary nature of contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate programs.  While the area of philosophical specialisation is open, the appointee must demonstrate expertise in the philosophy of artificial intelligence and in professional ethics.

Computer Science

Computer Science is a core disciplinary area within the Department of Computer Science at UWA India, supporting undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across key domains including Computer Science and Software Engineering, Computer Systems and Cybersecurity, Databases and Data Engineering, and Programming and Computational Theory. Teaching integrates theoretical foundations with practical application to develop strong programming capability, analytical reasoning and systems level understanding. The curriculum emphasises secure and scalable systems, software development and data driven solutions, while embedding ethical, professional and societal considerations, preparing graduates for careers across technology focused industries, research, and public and private organisations. 

About the opportunity  

• As an Assistant Professor or Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at UWA India, you will contribute to high quality teaching and learning, develop and disseminate impactful research, and participate in scholarly, service and governance activities that support UWA’s academic mission. 
• At Assistant Professor level, you will deliver approved undergraduate and postgraduate units, contribute to curriculum enhancement, develop an emerging research profile with peer reviewed outputs, participate in research funding applications and supervise students where appropriate. 
• At Senior Assistant Professor level, you will make substantial contributions to curriculum and programme design, lead or co lead scholarly and research initiatives, undertake independent and collaborative research that makes original disciplinary contributions, supervise research students, contribute actively to research funding applications and mentor junior staff. 

About you  

Assistant Professor 

• A PhD in a relevant Computer Science discipline, or near completion at the time of appointment.  
• Demonstrated ability to undertake high-quality research with potential to publish in well-regarded international peer-reviewed journals.  
• Evidence of an emerging research agenda aligned with the discipline.  
• Evidence of effective and engaging teaching at the university level.  
• Capacity to contribute to curriculum development and innovative learning initiatives.  

Senior Assistant Professor 

• A PhD or equivalent doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline.  
• Demonstrated track record of research excellence and sustainable peer-reviewed journal articles publications in top-ranked journals.  
• Demonstrate a strong research track record displaying ability to undertake research and publish in high-quality international peer-reviewed journals.  
• Evidence of success in obtaining, or contributing to, research funding.  
• Demonstrated experience in, or commitment to, supervision or co-supervision of Honours and/or HDR students.
