The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL is part of the ETH Domain. Approximately 600 people work on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards.

The Land Change Science research unit analyzes and assesses short- and long-term changes in the natural resources of the built, managed, and semi-natural landscape. The JustBioSolar project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, investigates the impact of ground-mounted photovoltaic systems. For this project, the Land Use Systems Group is offering a 2-year position (possibility of extension), starting in April 2026, as a

PostDoc in social-ecological systems 70-100% (f/m/d)


Within a European network of research regions, you will investigate the social, economic, and ecological impacts of ground-mounted photovoltaic systems, focusing on issues of biodiversity conservation, landscape development, and environmental justice. To this end, you will develop a suitable methodology for comparative data collection and analysis, based primarily on the evaluation of written documents, spatial data, interviews, and image sources.

You have a doctorate in geography, environmental sciences, or similar disciplines and experience in socio-ecological research and combining qualitative and quantitative methods. You are fluent in at least one Swiss national language and English, both written and spoken, and have successfully published internationally. You are a team player, communicative, and work in a structured and independent manner.
