This position is part of BTH's marine technology initiative, in collaboration with companies and society in Karlskrona. The research is conducted in the subject of systems engineering at the Faculty of Engineering Sciences at the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (TIMN) in close collaboration with the Marine Technology Center of Sweden, MTC.


Work description

This postdoctoral position considers research in marine technology, more specifically on autonomous underwater and surface vehicles that work individually or in swarms (groups). The focus is on developing methods within control, sensor and communication systems, for such systems. The work involves both simulation and practical testing of autonomous systems, including coordinated mission planning.

The position also includes tasks such as planning and implementation of experiments, construction of experimental setups, data analysis, and documentation of results in scientific publications and presentation at conferences. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to be an active participant in the research group in systems engineering and support other research projects related to marine projects, with knowledge and expertise. The position mainly includes research and development (at least 80%), which is largely carried out in close collaboration with companies and authorities. Teaching and/or other departmental work may be included with up to 20%. The Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is one of six departments at the Faculty of Engineering Sciences. Teaching is conducted in electrical engineering, signal processing, control engineering, mathematics, physics and chemistry. The Master of Science in Marine Engineering program is within the department's area of ​​responsibility.


Eligibility

Eligible to be employed as a postdoctor is a person who has completed a doctoral degree or has a foreign degree that is deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree. The person who has completed the degree no more than three years before the end of the application period should be considered in the first hand. Even those who have graduated earlier could be considered if there are particular grounds. Particular grounds refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, positions of trust within trade unions or other similar circumstances. Meriting competencies and experience

In addition to the requirements described in the work description, eligibility requirements and assessment criteria for the position, the following degrees, competencies and experiences are considered a merit:

  • A PhD degree in automatic control, systems engineering, electrical engineering, signal processing, engineering physics, engineering mathematics, marine engineering or related field.
  • Deep knowldege in automatic control, signal processing and autonomous systems. Experience of programming and sensorintegration for control of autonomous vehicles are considered a merit. 
  • Documented experience in research and development within industrial application areas (civil and/or military), expecially within autonomous maritime vehicles.
  • Good communication skills, both verbally and in writing, in Swedish and English.
  • Good ability to work independently as well as in a team.

Duration: Fixed-term employment for 2-3 years with the possibility of extension. The total period of employment must not exceed 3 years.
