Offer Description

The world requires outstanding technical universities to address the multifaceted global challenges that we face today. Chalmers University of Technology is on an ambitious path to expand the frontiers of science and technology to meet those challenges.

As part of this ambition, Chalmers seeks curious, creative and highly promising individuals to join us as tenure-track Assistant Professors. We are looking for candidates with the potential to establish internationally recognised research programs and who seek scientific freedom to pursue ambitious research agendas.

The position is a five-year tenure-track appointment with a competitive start-up package including funding for personnel, equipment, and operational costs. You will also get relocation support, mentoring, and leadership training to support your development as an independent research leader and educator. Through Chalmers’ cross-departmental Areas of Advance, you will have opportunities to build collaborations and networks both within the university and with leading industrial and societal partners.

You are invited to apply and share your research vision and plans to achieve your goals. At Chalmers, we value an inclusive and respectful academic culture and welcome applications from individuals of all genders, backgrounds, and identities.

The applications will be reviewed during May – August, and interviews are planned for mid-September to mid-October 2026. Starting date is flexible but preferably not later than the first half of 2027.

Advancing sustainable industrial innovation

Production systems are undergoing rapid transformation, driven by digitalisation, AI, new production technologies, societal electrification and the need for industrial innovation. At Chalmers, we are at the forefront of these developments, advancing research and education that contributes to industrial leadership and the transformation toward sustainable production.

Chalmers will recruit one Assistant Professor within Production. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to research and education in sustainable and digitalised production, and to connect to our existing research while adding distinctive new perspectives meeting sustainable, societal and industrial challenges.

Research and education in Production at Chalmers address key challenges in modern manufacturing and industrial systems. Key areas include product development, manufacturing processes, production systems, production within a circular economy and organisation of production across industrial supply chains.

Within and across these areas, we develop advanced manufacturing technologies, digital solutions for resource-efficient product and process development, virtual and augmented reality applications, and innovations in automation and production logistics.

Production at Chalmers is a national strategic research environment with a unique collaboration culture spanning mechanical, manufacturing, electrical and industrial engineering, together with chemical engineering and microtechnology. Research at Chalmers enables the development and validation of new production technologies in close collaboration with leading industrial partners, supported by a strong ecosystem of research and innovation centres. These include the Vinnova Competence Centre for Additive Manufacturing – Metals (CAM2) , the Wingquist Laboratory , the Metal Cutting Research Centre (MCR) , the Swedish Life Cycle Centre (SLC) , the MAXBATT Competence Centre , the Competence Centre Recycling (CCR) , Stena Industry Innovation Laboratory , and the Centre for Process Engineering (CPE) . This ecosystem enables the development, testing, and scaling of new solutions in realistic industrial settings, as well as engagement in European research networks and platforms. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a strong and growing research environment and to shape future developments in Production through cutting-edge research and collaboration.
