Offer Description
We are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher in food technology to join the Food Technology and Quality Program team, based in Monells (Girona). We offer the opportunity to become part of an organization with a dynamic, collaborative work environment focused on professional development.
The position is part of the European project Winn-Organic, which focus on innovative processing and packaging technologies, applied to organic foods. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment within our organization. To contribute to research aimed at improving sustainability and efficiency in food production.
The successful candidate will work on different foods (dairy products, plant-based proteins, bagasse, plant-based beverages), to turn them into powdered food ingredients. In this case, the Pulse Spray Drying atomization technology will be studied, which can reduce energy consumption by up to 40%. Additionally, pasteurization technology by electromagnetic induction and packaging models made with bioplastics will be evaluated.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
Coordinate the execution the activities in relation to the Winn-Organics project for timely achievement of the project milestones, including the planning, implementation of the experiments in close collaboration with the people responsible for the tasks, and people involved in the activity. This work includes:
•Assessment of Pulse Spray Drying (new atomization system for obtaining powdered ingredients, such as dairy products, plant-based proteins and bagasse as side-stream produced during the elaboration of juices and plant-based beverages).
•Design of membrane separation technology processes to isolate different functional protein fractions from a legume.
•Study of pasteurization of liquids by electromagnetic induction, working mainly with milk.
•Study of packaging using biobased materials and modelling of the effects on quality of packaged food.
Carry out literature review, manage data collection and analysis, with statistical evaluations to support sound scientific conclusions.
To provide contributions and scientific expertise for the ongoing research project, fostering innovation and methodological improvement.
Supervise undergraduate and graduate students, and technical staff, supporting their scientific and technical development, ensuring high-quality training and execution of the activity.
Contribute to the drafting of deliverables and project reports, scientific publications, technical articles and other activities for dissemination of the results of the research carried out.
Contribute to team integration, collaborative initiatives and a positive, solution-oriented work environment within the Food Quality and Technology Programme and the Food Industry Area.
Work under internal quality procedures related to R+D activities (ISO9001, ISO 56001)

Skills/Qualifications
Required qualifications and experience
- PhD in food technology or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience in the planning of food-related experiments, their execution, physicochemical characterisation, statistical analysis of the results.
- Proven scientific production in the field of food technology/quality.
- Demonstrated research skills, including:
- Review and synthesis of the scientific literature.
- Design and implementation of experiments in the field of food technology.
- Proficiency in English.
Desirable requirements
- Experience in experimental trials of liquid foods, such as milk, plant-based beverages and/or juices.
- Experience in food processing technologies, such as pasteurization, membrane separation or atomization.
- Knowledge and practical experience in mathematical modelling.
- Knowledge of Spanish and Catalan will be valued.
- Academic and research track record that qualifies the candidate to apply for competitive postdoctoral grants in the field of food technology and quality.
