The University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (UWM) invites applications from outstanding researchers to establish an independent research group in Plant Genomics. We seek ambitious scientists with a strong research vision who are eager to drive innovative, data-driven approaches in plant biotechnology and genomics. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and growing research environment, with the opportunity to shape interdisciplinary research and build an internationally visible programme.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • establish and lead an independent research programme in Plant Genomics,
  • build and supervise a research group, including PhD candidates and early-career researchers,
  • secure competitive external funding and lead national or international research projects,
  • conduct innovative research integrating genomics, bioinformatics, and computational biology,
  • publish in high-impact international journals,
  • contribute to international collaborations and interdisciplinary initiatives.

We Offer

  • full-time appointment with an initial 48-month contract and possibility of extension,
  • starting date: no later than 1 October 2026,
  • gross annual salary: EUR 24,000–39,000, depending on qualifications and experience,
  • opportunity to negotiate a research start-up package, including funding for equipment, materials, and research staff,
  • support to build an independent research group, including recruitment of PhD candidates,
  • institutional support for grant applications and international collaborations,
  • funding for international conferences, training and research visits,
  • access to modern research infrastructure and industry partnerships.

Relocation Support

UWM provides dedicated relocation assistance for the successful candidate and their family, including:

  • onboarding and integration support,
  • assistance with immigration procedures and accommodation,
  • guidance for family relocation and schooling,
  • Polish language courses,
  • administrative support in English.

Candidate Evaluation Criteria

Applicants should have:

  • a PhD in plant sciences, agriculture, biotechnology, genomics, or a related discipline,
  • an excellent publication record,
  • demonstrated independent research ability,
  • experience with genomics, computational or data-driven approaches,
  • strong collaboration and communication skills.
