How will you contribute?

You will participate in applied projects in the framework of the risk evaluation of micropollutant contamination in surface and groundwaters, involving extended monitoring campaigns using passive sampling, autosampling and continuous probes. The focus will be mainly on pesticides and their metabolites from application and transformation in soils to transport to ground and surface waters. You contribute to evaluations of pesticide pollution risk and impact and participate in consulting Luxembourgish stakeholders on mitigating pesticide impact. This involves disseminating research results through seminars, conferences and publications.

This position is within the Catchment and Ecohydrology Group, which is part of the Environmental Sensing and Modelling Unit at LIST. There is a strong collaboration with the Luxembourgish Water Administration and other stakeholders in the water management and agricultural domain.

Duties will include:

  • Monitoring water resources and soils with different techniques (passive samplers, autosamplers, continuous probes)

  • Processing of samples in the laboratory

  • Evaluating analytical results, calculating loads and substance flows

  • Applying environmental fate models

  • Co-writing reports and publications

Education

  • MSc or equivalent in hydrology or environmental sciences

Experience and skills

  • Strong background in environmental organic chemistry and fate modelling or risk evaluation of micropollutants

  • Hands-on experience in analytical processing and measurement of micropollutants

  • Good basics in hydrological and substance flow modelling

  • Experience in statistical data evaluation and programming skills (R, Python, etc.)

Language skills

  • Fluency in English and French or German, both oral and written. Skilled in Luxembourgish is an asset.
