An Assistant Professor position in the Frontier Ice and Snow Science Division of the Institute of Low Temperature Science (ILTS) is now open. ILTS, an inter-university research institute affiliated with Hokkaido University, promotes interdisciplinary studies on various natural phenomena occurring in the cryosphere. The Frontier Ice and Snow Science Division pursues comprehensive understanding of the planetary and terrestrial phenomena on the basis of ice and snow sciences. This Division also opens the way for new, innovative research on environmental, physical and chemical issues related to ice and snow.

The successful applicant should have demonstrated abilities to be an excellent researcher and have high research productivity with the potential to lead new and innovative research programs. This includes publishing results regularly in high-impact journals and actively seeking funding in support of research. He or she is expected to conduct physicochemical studies of ice and related materials at very low temperatures by experimental methods with their applications to earth and planetary sciences and astronomy. The applicant is expected to understand the role of the inter-university activity of ILTS. He or she is required to carry out education-related duties in the Graduate School of Science in Hokkaido University and supervise graduate students. He or she should have a PhD, or be expected to obtain a PhD degree by March 2026. He or she is competent enough to teach at the university level in Japanese and/or English. The conditions of employment, such as the duration, will follow University regulations, and the starting date should be the earliest possible date.
