Earthquake Research Institute, The University of Tokyo is seeking a project researcher who promotes the construction of earthquake and volcano database and analysis platform as a member of Collaboration Center for Earthquake and Volcano Research.

8.Contents of Work Duties:Successful applicants will participate in one or both of the two research themes described below and conduct research that aimed to advances the understanding of earthquakes and volcanoes. This will be achieved through the development of databases and analysis platforms covering the full range of fields covered by “The Third Earthquake and Volcano Hazard Observation and Research Program”.
1) Development of internationally standard databases and analysis platforms in the applicant’s area of expertise in seismology and/or volcanology.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of databases and analysis platforms that may also encompass related interdisciplinary fields. In addition, the candidate will conduct research that feeds back the content and outcomes of these databases and platforms into their own scientific studies.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Possession of a Ph.D. in geophysics or a related field.
An outstanding record of research achievements in the applicant’s area of expertise within seismology or volcanology.
A strong interest in advancing the fundamental understanding of earthquakes and volcanoes through interdisciplinary collaboration, in addition to their own specialty.
Skills and knowledge related to data handling, such as the acquisition, analysis, and modeling of observational data, are highly desirable.
2) Development of state-of-the-art database and analysis platforms as part of data science, utilizing diverse datasets related to earthquakes and volcanoes across broad spatial and temporal scales.
These datasets include observational and analytical data, topographic and geological data, historical records, models, and analytical techniques. Wages description:Annual Salary System applies and monthly paid salary will be around JPY 350,000-400,000 including performance/achievement allowance. (The salary will be decided taking your qualifications, capacity, experience etc. into account.)
