The Role

We are seeking an excellent academic to join the staff of our vibrant, collegial, research-driven Department as an Assistant Professor/Lecturer in Psychology. The appointee will be expected to make a strong contribution to teaching core areas of Psychology, and specialist topics (depending on background and expertise), on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the Department and University, including the BSc General Nursing and BSc Sports Science and Health, where required. The appointee will also be expected to supervise research interns and postgraduate students and to sustain and conduct research, engage in scholarship of quality and substance, and generate publications of international standard.
We are especially interested in receiving applications from candidates whose research profiles align well with existing strengths in the department in the broad application of psychology for human health and wellbeing, in line with the University’s strategic commitment to research in this area. The appointees are expected to lead research that aligns with the University’s Health and Wellbeing research beacon: Health and Wellbeing | Maynooth University .
The ideal candidate will have:
Essential
- A PhD in Psychology or close cognate discipline;
- A strong academic record in teaching and research;
- A record of scholarly work and publication of international quality, demonstrating potential to become a significant contributor in their field;
- Research expertise in complementary alignment with the Department’s existing research strengths in psychology for human health and wellbeing;
- Experience of and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching,
- Experience supervising graduate research students;
- Good administrative, organisational, teamwork and communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience teaching psychology to a variety of disciplinary groups;
- Graduate Membership or eligibility for Graduate Membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland, the British Psychological Society, or an equivalent professional body.
