The Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics (LSGI) is widely considered as a centre of excellence in both education and research in Geomatics and related fields.  The Department offers a range of academic programmes to both local and overseas students, including Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics, Master of Science in Geomatics, Master of Science in Urban Informatics & Smart Cities and Doctor of Philosophy.  LSGI has a very strong research programme that encompasses research activities in the areas of urban informatics, spatial big data analytics, geographical information science, satellite positioning, ubiquitous positioning, photogrammetry and remote sensing, geodesy and geodynamics, environmental monitoring, geo-hazards studies, intelligent transport systems, smart city, utility system management, location-based services, geographical social science and near-surface geophysical survey.  LSGI has a number of well-equipped research and teaching laboratories.  Please visit the website at https://www.polyu.edu.hk/lsgi/ for more information about the Department.

The Department is seeking a highly motivated and suitably qualified individual with research expertise in Smart Cities and Urban Informatics.

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;

(b)    provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level;

(c)    contribute to service of the Department and the Otto Poon Charitable Foundation Smart Cities Research Institute (SCRI); and

(d)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department, the Director of SCRI or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have a PhD degree in a related discipline;

(b)    preferably have at least two years of postdoctoral research experience;

(c)    have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field;

(d)    be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and

(e)    be highly proficient in written and spoken English.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for two to three years initially, with possibility of extension.
