The Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) is a multi-disciplinary department hosted under the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences established on 1 January 2025.  DSAI will be at the forefront of cutting-edge technology and innovation, driving forward the fields of Data Science (DS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).  The Department envisions to cultivate a comprehensive curriculum that encompasses key research pillars such as Big Data Analytics and Management, Machine Learning and Optimization, AI for Data Science, Deep Learning, Generative Learning, Biometrics Processing, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision and Graphics, Statistical Learning, and Bioinformatics.  Please visit the website at https://www.polyu.edu.hk/dsai/ for more information about DSAI.

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    conduct research in biometrics, artificial intelligence security and forensics as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, Innovation and Technology Fund, and/or other competitive external fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;

(b)    provide supervision to MPhil or PhD students;

(c)    provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level;

(d)    contribute to departmental service; and

(e)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit, the designated project leader or their delegates. 

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a)    a PhD degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related disciplines;

(b)    preferably at least two years of postdoctoral research experience;

(c)    solid experience in university teaching and/or excellent record in academic and research achievements in Biometrics, Artificial Intelligence Security and Forensics or related areas;

(d)    high-impact research and publication records in high quality scholarly journals, or strong potential to publish in top-tier refereed journals;

(e)    a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research and professional service; and

(f)     excellent communication skills, with the ability to use English as the medium of instruction.

Preference will be given to those with strong research orientation, potential to publish in high quality scholarly journals and a good teaching record.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for two to three years initially, with possibility of extension.
