Developer (Application Development)

Duties 

The appointee will be a member of the Administrative Application Services Section, which is responsible for developing, enhancing and supporting the University’s administrative systems including student-related, staff-related and finance-related applications. The appointee will be required to:

(a)    work with development team in the development, maintenance and enhancement work of new and existing systems;

(b)    communicate with business users on requirement gathering and perform business needs analysis;

(c)    conduct user and system tests to ensure the quality of the applications; 

(d)    produce and maintain system documentation; and

(e)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of the Office or his delegates.

Qualifications 

Applicants should: 

(a)    have a recognised degree OR higher diploma or diploma in Computer Science or a related discipline;

(b)    preferably have at least one year’s programming experience for degree holders and three years’ relevant working experience for higher diploma or diploma holders;

(c)    have hands-on experience in Java EE, Structs and Spring framework;

(d)    have solid experience in Maven, Node.js, Express.js, React, GitLab, Typescript, Tailwind CSS, MySQL, and Oracle PL/SQL;

(e)    preferably have knowledge of/experience in frontend javascript library/framework (e.g. React.js);

(f)     have strong analytical skills, good interpersonal and communication skills;

(g)    have experience in troubleshooting production issues, performance tuning and adoption of security best practices;

(h)    be able to work independently with minimal supervision; and

(i)     have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
