Master Thesis - Integration of District Grid Constraints into a Multi-Agent-Based Local Energy Market Simulation
Your Job:
In this master thesis, a multi-agent-based local energy market simulation ASSUME shall be extended to account for district grid constraints. The objective is to investigate how local grid restrictions can be represented within an agent-based simulation environment and how their consideration affects market processes, pricing approaches, and decentralized energy systems.
A particular focus of the thesis lies in linking the market perspective with the grid perspective. Based on this, suitable modeling and integration approaches shall be explored in order to analyze different ways of considering grid constraints in local energy market simulations. The developed methods shall then be evaluated in suitable scenarios with respect to selected technical, economic, and system-related indicators.
This leads in particular to the following work packages:
- Familiarization with the simulation framework ASSUME and the underlying research problem
- Literature review on district-level grid constraints, local energy markets, retail pricing, and multi-agent systems
- Analysis of the requirements for representing grid-related restrictions in a local energy market simulation
- Conceptual design of suitable approaches for integrating grid constraints into the existing simulation environment
- Development and integration of new functionalities for the consideration of district grid constraints
- Development and parameterization of suitable study and simulation scenarios
- Execution and evaluation of analyses on different approaches for handling grid constraints
- Assessment of the effects on selected technical, economic, and system-related indicators
- Documentation, interpretation, and scientific discussion of the results
- Development and integration of new functionalities into the existing simulation environment
- Development and parameterization of suitable investigation and simulation scenarios
- Conducting and evaluating analyses of different tariff and bidding approaches
- Evaluation of the results using suitable parameters
- Documentation, interpretation, and scientific classification of the results
Your Profile:
- Currently pursuing a degree in a relevant field such as energy engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, industrial engineering, or a comparable field (Master’s degree)
- Knowledge of modeling, optimization, and data analysis of energy systems
- Interest in electricity markets, energy system analysis, and model-based studies
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages (preferably Python)
- Analytical, structured, and independent work style
- Strong written and spoken English skills
Our Offer:
