Offer Description

Context: Opioid addiction, particularly to heroin, is a major public health challenge, with high mortality rates due to overdoses. Despite existing substitution therapies, the brain mechanisms underlying the transition to compulsive drug use remain poorly understood. The INOPA project (Investigating a new pathway in opioid addiction), funded by INCa/IReSP, aims to unravel the molecular mechanisms underlying heroin intake escalation. We team recently identified a specific downregulation of the SEZ6 protein in the dorsal striatum of rats exhibiting heroin intake escalation (Lenoir et al., 2021). The aim of the project is decipher the molecular mechanisms involved in the effects of SEZ6 in heroin intake. This project combines behavioral (heroin self-administration in rats), molecular (SEZ6 modulation via AAV and shRNA), and morphological (dendritic spine analysis) approaches.

Responsibilities: Under the supervision of Dr. Nicolas Marie (a CNRS researcher), the postdoctoral fellow will:

  • Modulate SEZ6 expression in vivo (AAV, shRNA) and assess its impact on heroin self-administration.
  • Analyze synaptic mechanisms  using western blot, RT-qPCR, immunohistochemistry, and electrophysiology (in collaboration).
  • Characterize structural adaptations (dendrites, spines) in the dorsal striatum.
  • Write scientific articles and present results at international conferences.

Required Profile:

  • PhD in neuroscience, pharmacology, cellular/molecular biology, or related field.
  • Experience in neurobiology of addiction, animal behavior (self-administration, stereotaxic surgery), and/or molecular techniques (PCR, western blot, immunohistochemistry).
  • Experience in neuronal imaging is a plus.
  • Fluency in English (project working language).
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team.

Work Environment: The position is based at CNRS EMR 3649 / Inserm UMR-S 1124 (Université Paris Cité) located in the located in the famous Saint Germain des Prés neighborhood within the  team “Addictions and comorbidities: biomarkers, mechanisms and pharmacotherapies. The team consists of about ten permanent staff members, including researchers, lecturer-researchers, and research support personnel. The candidate will benefit from high-quality scientific supervision and access to state-of-the-art technical platforms (A2 animal facility, microscopy facility).

Contract and Salary:

  • 36-month fixed-term contract (ideal start: spring/summer 2026).
  • Gross monthly salary: ~2,500–2,800 € (depending on experience).
  • Benefits: travel expenses, continuous training.

Application: Send CV + cover letter + contact details of 2 references to: Nicolas Marie – nicolas.marie@u-paris.fr Subject: Application for INOPA Post-doc Position
