Offer Description

The works will complement already existing works: resulting from previous works between the AS2M and applied mechanics département of the FEMTO-ST institute, an experimental platform was developed and enabled the mechanical characterization of plant fibers by using a robot with a small tip that can compress the plant fibers one by one. These works demonstrated the capability to efficiently generate experimental tests but, we now want to implement dynamic force control to achieve faster and more tests. The main part of the works of this post-doc position will thus consist in developing a sensorized (instrumented) tip that will replace the current tip to achieve this force control. The final goal of the works will be to generate experimental datasets for the specific purpose of the RAIDO project.

The work will be structured around three complementary components: design, fabrication and implementation & experimentations.

Design:

This step will consist in designing the instrumented micromechatronic tool. First, the principle of the sensor will be investigated. It will be based on a silicon compliant structure that will include force sensitive elements such as strain gauges that will be included in the deformable structure of the tool. The detailed design will rely on using a software enabling multiphysic finite element modelling such as Comsol Multiphysics, to achieve the design of the sensor, studying the influence of parameters and considering clean room fabrication limitations.

Fabrication:

Once design, the tool will have to be fabricated. It is expected to use clean room fabrication techniques that are available within FEMTO-ST through its MIMENTO facility part of the national Renatech network. The fabrication will start from the design of masks, fabrication itself and will also cover all steps required to control whether the fabrication is validated or not for every step. This task will require the capability to propose a flow chart and an advanced knowledge and expertise/autonomy of all steps that can be done in clean room fabrication

Implementation & validation:

Once fabricated, the characteristics of the tool will have to be quantified through the development of an experimental bench to quantify its main performances (measurement of forces and displacements). Then, the tool will have to be integrated within the existing experimental platform and experimental tests will be conducted. Experimental data will be gathered and constitute datasets. The post-processing and analyzing of the experimental data will be done. A specific labelling of the data will have to be followed to enable efficient synergies with other partners within the RAIDO project)

Main other activities

Take part to meetings (within the department but also with partners of the RAIDO project)

Present the works to the team members partners or at conferences

Write technical reports and publications

Contribute to the dissemination of the works and project (visits, websites, conferences, journal)
