We seek a professor to strengthen the department’s research and education in Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics, with a particular focus on advanced thermodynamic models and a good knowledge of process systems engineering.
The position aims to advance physically consistent and predictive thermodynamic modeling, including the integration of advanced machine learning methods, to support process and product design, process operation, environmental impact reduction, and safety assessment across a broad range of applications.
The professorship is a part of the research center Applied Thermodynamics – Center for Energy Resources Engineering and the professor is expected to collaborate with faculty members within the department, across DTU, with national and international academic partners, and with industry.
Responsibilities
You will play a key role in advancing fundamental understandings of water and electrolyte thermodynamics by combining molecular theories and simulations, quantum chemical calculations, and advanced experimental techniques. Also, you will be enhancing and further developing teaching and education within the fields of chemical and biochemical engineering thermodynamics.
Other key role areas are:
- Developing and applying advanced molecular thermodynamic theories and models for water and electrolyte systems relevant to energy, materials, environmental, and biological applications, as well as other sustainability relevant endeavours
- Integrating advanced machine learning methods in thermodynamics for computer-aided property predictions, molecular and product design and optimization, as well as process simulation, modelling, design and optimization
- Developing, leading, and sustaining international scientific and industrial collaborations.
Qualifications
The professor must have a proven track record within several of the following research fields:
- Molecular and applied thermodynamics of aqueous and electrolyte systems
- Advanced molecular thermodynamic modeling of complex fluids
- Structure-property relationships linking molecular interactions to macroscopic behavior
- Integration of thermodynamic theory with molecular simulations, quantum chemical calculations, and experimental validation
- Thermodynamic modeling of inhomogeneous systems
- Process systems engineering with or without machine learning methods
Furthermore, the candidate must demonstrate remarkable achievements in terms of:
- An internationally recognized research record with seminal contributions to water and/or electrolyte thermodynamics
- Demonstrated leadership in the development of molecular-based thermodynamic models with predictive capability
- Extensive publication record in leading journals
- Proven ability to attract large competitive research grants, such as ERC grants.
- Strong experience in research group leadership
- Commitment to high-quality teaching and mentoring
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to work across disciplines and industries
You are expected to take a lead role in teaching at the BEng, BSc, MSc and PhD levels.
DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.
You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:
- Documented experience and quality of teaching and curriculum development
- Research impact and experience, funding track record and research vision
- International impact and experience
- Societal impact
- Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
- Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
- Communication skills
Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
