Job Description

DTU National Food Institute is seeking a Senior Researcher within the field of pesticides. The candidate must be fluent in spoken and written Danish.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The tasks will initially primarily involve research-based regulatory advisory services and communication to authorities, industry, and society within the field of pesticides. In the beginning there will be a lot of focus on introduction to the extensive advisory tasks, so teaching can take place in the long term and is expected to be a minor task. Because of the advisory and communication tasks the candidate must be fluent in Danish.

The position will also include responsibility for carrying out research tasks.

The work will include, among other things:

  • Advising the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration and the Danish Environmental Protection Agency
  • Providing advice in an international context and participating in meetings
  • Intake calculations and risk assessment, including cumulative exposure. The calculations will involve the use of both deterministic and probabilistic methods
  • Preparation of memoranda for control of compliance with EU maximum residue limits for pesticide residues in food in connection with national approvals of pesticides
  • Evaluation of pesticides for substances where Denmark acts as rapporteur on behalf of the entire EU, including evaluation of residue concentrations and analytical methods
  • Recommending proposals for new maximum residue limits for pesticide residues in food
  • Participation in research and advisory projects related to intake calculations of cumulative exposure to, among other things, pesticides, as well as other projects

The ideal candidate is expected to have solid chemical knowledge and experience, including experience with analytical chemical methods. Familiarity with intake calculations and risk assessments for pesticide residues in food using various methods will be an advantage. This includes experience with both deterministic and probabilistic approaches. Knowledge of pesticide legislation and experience with regulatory advisory work, both nationally and internationally, will also be beneficial.

Emphasis is placed on the candidate’s participation in research and advisory projects at the international level, and the candidate must be able to demonstrate scientific communication through publications in international journals and, where applicable, presentations at conferences.

At a later stage you must contribute to teaching at the Department. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent both written and oral in both languages.

As a formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) within the field of chemistry / analytical chemistry as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as a researcher or postdoc. To be appointed as a senior researcher, you must have completed a didactic/pedagogic education. If you do not have the necessary education, then it is possible to complete this requirement within a period of two years of appointment. However, as teaching is expected to be a minor task in this position due to the extensive advisory tasks, an assessment of the necessary didactic/pedagogic education will take place together with you.

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

  • Research experience
  • Experience and quality of teaching and/or scientically-based advisory work
  • Research vision and potential
  • International impact and experience
  • Societal impact
  • Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
  • Communication skills

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

Starting date is 1 June 2026 (or according to mutual agreement). The position is a full-time position.

The workplace is at DTU National Food Institute, Research Group for Chemical Risk Assessment and GMO, Henrik Dams Allé, Building 201, 2800 Kgs Lyngby.
