Position Description
The Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IMI-BAS) announces a postdoctoral position for 1-2 years. The position is affiliated with IMI-BAS and the International Center for Mathematical Sciences – Sofia (ICMS-Sofia). It is financially supported by Assist. Prof. Antoni Rangachev's Swiss National Science Foundation grant ``Topological, Metric and Algebraic Equisingularity Theory" and funds from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria. 
The position is in the area of singularities of algebraic and complex analytic varieties. Applicants should hold or be close to completing a PhD in mathematics. It is desirable that they have research experience in at least one of the following areas: families of singularities, singularities in mixed characteristic, equisingularity theory, Milnor fibrations and topology of singularities, birational geometry, valuation theory, commutative algebra/integral closure methods, metric geometry of singularities.

Employment details. 
  • Duration: 12 months with the possibility of an extension to 24 months. 
  • Financial package: approx. €2,200 per month, €3,000 for traveling per year plus additional funds for inviting collaborators. 
  • Location: IMI-BAS, ICMS-Sofia (Sofia, Bulgaria). Opportunities to interact with members of the newly emerging departments of algebraic geometry and representation theory at ICMS-Sofia (www.icms.bg).

Selection process. Applications will be reviewed after the deadline. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interviews at the end of January, 2026, and final decisions will be communicated in early February, 2026.
