We are looking for a full-time AI Engineer to join K3Y Ltd, a fast-growing SME with presence in Bulgaria and Greece. As a full-time AI Engineer in our R&D Department in Sofia, Bulgaria or in our Business Development & Innovation Department in Thessaloniki, Greece, you will take ownership of the full lifecycle of AI/ML solutions, from conception through to production deployment, within the EU-funded projects K3Y participates in. You will work alongside R&D teams and external consortium partners, contributing technically and operationally to project objectives. You will translate research outcomes into robust, maintainable software artifacts, while proactively identifying improvements and proposing innovative directions. You will also be expected to produce high-quality technical outputs and to represent K3Y at international events, reviews, and partner engagements.

 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the complete development lifecycle of AI/ML systems, ensuring alignment with both research goals and practical deployment requirements.
  • Build robust data processing pipelines and apply advanced analytical and statistical techniques to extract actionable insights from complex datasets.
  • Train, evaluate, and continuously refine deep learning and machine learning models, prioritising interpretability, robustness, and efficiency.
  • Contribute to the team's engineering culture by introducing and maintaining quality standards including automated testing, version-controlled releases, and scalable deployment workflows.
  • Produce clear and thorough technical documentation and research deliverables targeting both scientific and non-technical audiences.
  • Coordinate and contribute to project planning activities, tracking progress against milestones and facilitating cross-team communication.
  • Attend and actively participate in project reviews, international conferences, and collaborative events on behalf of the company.

Basic Qualifications

  • BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, ICT or related fields.
  • Solid hands-on experience with Python and familiarity with major deep learning libraries such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Practical background in training and validating models on GPU-based and distributed computing environments.
  • Working knowledge of containerization tools and orchestration platforms (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes/Kubeflow).
  • Comfort with version control workflows (GitHub/GitLab) and continuous integration/delivery practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage secure server environments and remote computing resources.
  • Clear and effective communicator, capable of conveying technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSc or/and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in scientific or engineering field, preferably in computer science, electrical engineering or ICT.
  • Prior involvement in EU-funded research or innovation projects.
  • Hands-on experience with relational and non-relational databases.
  • Familiarity with data security practices, including anonymization, encryption, and GDPR compliance.
  • Background in immersive technologies such as VR/AR development using Unity Game Engine.
