Offer Description

Activities: The post-doctoral researcher at the University of São Paulo's Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science (IME-USP) in Brazil will work at the intersection of High-Performance Computing (HPC) and neuro-symbolic Artificial Intelligence (AI) to combat multimodal disinformation (deepfakes). The activities involve developing an approach that uses Knowledge Organization (KO) metadata and ontologies to optimize parallel processing and scheduling policies (via Kubernetes) for Machine Learning tasks. The fellow will apply semantic modeling on the Multi-User Equipment (EMU) cluster infrastructure aiming at the generation of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI).

Mandatory requirements: Ph.D. in Information Science, Communication Sciences, Computer Science, or related fields (obtained within the last 7 years). A solid theoretical foundation and research experience in Knowledge Organization (KO) focused on the study of disinformation, fake news, or synthetic media are required. An interdisciplinary profile is necessary to act as a bridge between Information Science and the laboratory's engineering teams (HPC/AI). Excellent communication skills in English are essential.

Desirable requirements: The following will be considered strong assets: practical research experience with AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and Responsible Computing, preferably with prior experience in technological innovation laboratories. Additionally, knowledge in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and experience with multimedia analysis will be highly valued to assist in the semantic modeling of the disinformation context and in communicating with the engineering team.

How to apply: Send an email containing a CV (FAPESP format) in PDF and a motivation letter in PDF with the subject “PD-FAPESP KO-HPC” to Alfredo Goldman (gold@ime.usp.br ).
