Offer Description

The aim of this fellowship is to study the structure and dynamics of the viral factory formed in A. castellanii during the infection cycle of Tupanvirus and Niemeyervirus. The formation of viral factories is identified in several viruses during replication in host cells. It is known that capsid assembly occurs in this structure, requiring a complex pathway of biochemical interactions. These structures, although well known in nature, have not been studied in Nucleocitoviricota (Tupanvirus and Niemeyervirus). Various X-ray tomography and cryo-electron microscopy techniques will be employed, as well as the investigation of the composition of viral factories by mass spectrometry.

We hope that with these approaches, we will understand the mechanisms that develop in the viral factory of Nucleocitoviricota and characterize the structure of these complexes.

The fellow will be based at the University of São Paulo's São Carlos Institute of Physics (IFSC-USP) in Brazil.

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a Post-Doctoral fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP)  in the amount of R$ 12,570.00 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
