Senior Data Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Data Engineer to help drive our data and analytics capability forward.

This is your chance to step into a technical leadership role where your expertise will directly support the reliability, performance, and scalability of Curtin’s data platforms. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will independently design, develop, and maintain cutting-edge data pipelines, warehouses, and lakes, and mentor junior engineers to foster a high-performing, collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Independently lead design and implementation of robust, high-performing data solutions.
• Manage and enhance enterprise-scale data platforms.
• Turn uncertainty into potential by approaching challenges with proactive and innovative solutions.
• Embrace challenge as a catalyst for creative action and growth.
• Provide expert technical guidance across university-wide ICT projects.
• Ensure data solutions are secure, reliable, and aligned with best practices.
• Support service continuity and disaster recovery strategies.
• Mentor junior colleagues and collaborate across interdisciplinary teams.

• A relevant degree with extensive experience in data engineering or a related field
• Proven skills working with large datasets, databases and ETL pipelines.
• Expertise in modern data engineering tools and platforms (e.g., AWS, DevOps, Power BI, GitHub).
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Demonstrated experience with virtualised server environments and cloud-based architectures.
• AWS experience/expertise and certification (essential)

• Experience with tools like ServiceNow and Confluence.
