About This Opportunity
Join us as a Principal Learning Designer (Assessment) and play a pivotal role in elevating teaching and learning quality at The University of Queensland. This position offers an exciting opportunity to partner with academic staff to design impactful curriculum, innovative assessment strategies, and engaging active learning experiences across courses and coursework programs.
We are recruiting for two positions, one based in the Faculty of Science and one in the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences (HMBS). Both roles include a dotted reporting line to the Strategic Lead (Assessment Transformation) within the Institute for Teaching and Learning Innovation (ITaLI). Successful candidates will be expected to meet specific key performance indicators over the three-year project duration.
Key responsibilities will include:
Collaborate with the Strategic Lead (Assessment Transformation) and key stakeholders to align initiatives with institutional priorities and establish robust reporting frameworks to measure success.
Design and implement contemporary assessment strategies aligned with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and programmatic assessment approaches.
Partner with academic staff to develop, implement, and evaluate innovative, secure, and authentic assessment practices that enhance student outcomes and prepare graduates for an AI-enabled workforce.
Provide expert advice on assessment design, feedback practices, and academic integrity at both course and program levels.
Monitor and share emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in assessment across the higher education sector, fostering engagement through communities of practice.
Collaborate with senior stakeholders and subject matter experts to advance pedagogical innovation, particularly in the context of AI and assessment security.
Work closely with colleagues across the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) portfolio, including the Library, to leverage institutional resources and support services.
Lead and manage educational design projects, including defining scope, coordinating resources, and ensuring successful delivery aligned with stakeholder expectations and technical feasibility.

About You
A relevant degree with at least four years’ subsequent experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in developing learning and assessment resources.
Demonstrated understanding of educational technology and best practices to support student achievement, engagement, and assessment security, particularly in the context of AI.
Advanced analytical skills to analyse complex information and identify issues related to assessment security and integrity.
Demonstrated ability to apply pedagogical theory, contemporary practice, and practical experience to analyse teaching and learning situations and apply high-level problem-solving skills to develop innovative face-to-face and online learning and assessment solutions.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to build and maintain strong collaborative linkages with diverse stakeholders and a demonstrated commitment to respond to client needs.
Demonstrated ability to work iteratively, adapt to change, and operate effectively both autonomously and as a member of a collaborative, client-focused team.
