Advance your research career in pathogen genomics and bioinformatics
Base Salary $89,831 - $113,400 + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate in Genomics and Bioinformatics to join the University of Sydney Infectious Diseases Institute (SydneyID) and contribute to cutting-edge research in diagnostics and epidemiology of infectious diseases. This role will expand SydneyID’s capacity in advanced diagnostics and prognostics of severe and emerging fungal and bacterial diseases. The position will strengthen the collaboration between SydneyID’s “Pathogen Emergence and Spread” research theme and the Mycology and Microbial Genomics Reference Laboratories at the Institute of Clinical Pathology and Medical Research, NSW Health Pathology at Westmead Hospital.
You will work closely with Professors Vitali Sintchenko, Sharon Chen, and Justin Beardsley and their clinical research and diagnostic microbiology teams.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
undertake collaborative research in bacterial and fungal genomics and bioinformatics, focusing on next-generation sequencing applications to assess virulence and drug resistance in invasive and emerging fungal pathogens
develop novel approaches to analyse medically relevant fungal genomes in the context of infectious disease outbreaks
produce high-quality research outputs, including peer-reviewed publications and presentations to academic and government stakeholders
develop a coherent research program and an emerging research profile
support and supervise junior researchers and clinical trainees
contribute to the positive culture and reputation of the Faculty of Medicine and Health (FMH) and the University of Sydney through research, mentorship, and stakeholder engagement.
About you
a PhD (or nearing completion) in Science, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related field
a developing research profile, with publications in genetics and/or informatics
proven experience in original research and scholarly activity
experience in next-generation sequencing data analysis or integrative analysis of multi-dimensional data
high-level skills in communication, leadership and collaboration
a developing network of academic, industry and professional partners.
Pre-employment checks
