2 - Offer Description

The Fundação Minerva – Cultura – Ensino e Investigação Científica, founding entity of Universidade Lusíada, and which includes the research unit CIPD – Centro de Investigação em Psicologia para o Desenvolvimento (reference UIDB/04375/2020), opens a call to award one postdoctoral research scholarship in the area Educational Sciences and Psychology, to be financed by national funds from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. within the scope of the project 2023.13475.PEX.

 

2.1. Work plan and goals

The selected candidate will carry out its work within the scope of the exploratory project “Advancing Quality Education through Parental Engagement: Updating frameworks and piloting innovative interventions for the digital age” including the following tasks:

  • Support for research and literature review;
  • Participation in data collection and analysis (quantitative and qualitative);
  • Collaboration in writing reports and scientific articles, as well as presenting work at scientific meetings;
  • Organisation of project team meetings and dissemination events;
  • Collaboration in other support functions related to the management and implementation of research activities and project dissemination.

    The scientific supervision of the research grant is the responsibility of Prof. Doutor Richard Inman.

    At the end of the scholarship, the selected candidate must submit a final report in accordance with regulations, to be evaluated and approved by the supervisor.

     

    2.2. Duration of the Scholarship and conditions for its renewal, when applicable

    The scholarship will last 16 months and will be exercised exclusively.

     

    2.3. Application Submission Method – Supporting Documents for Evaluation and Contracting

    Applications must be submitted by email and accompanied by the following documents:

    • Curriculum vitae (in Portuguese) including full name, address, and email;
    • A copy of the degree certificate(s) and the respective recognition of the academic degree(s), if obtained from a foreign higher education institution;
    • Record of recognition of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions and record of the conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese grading scale;
    • Up to three publications co-authored by the candidate, considered most relevant (in PDF format);
    • Motivation letter in English (max. 1000 words);
    • Other supporting documents proving relevant experience and knowledge.

    Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require record of recognition by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decreto-Lei No. 66/2018, of August 16, and Portaria No. 33/2019, of January 25.     Value of monthly maintenance allowance, other financial components, frequency and method of payment of the scholarship: 

    The value of the monthly maintenance allowance corresponds to €1.801 (one thousand eight hundred and one euros), according to the FCT table of values (see Annex I of Regulamento No 950/2019, of December 16th):

    The value of the monthly maintenance allowance will be paid monthly, via bank transfer, to the scholarship holder for the full period of the scholarship. 


    Eligibility criteria

    a) The candidate must hold a PhD in Education Sciences or in another field of Social and Human Sciences relevant to the development of the project (e.g. Psychology, Sociology) obtained in the three years prior to the date of submitting the fellowship application (Paragraph a), Point 3, Article 7 of Regulamento No. 950/2019, of December 16th);

    b) The program of postdoctoral research must be conducted in a host entity that is different to the entity where the candidate conducted research for their doctorate (Paragraph b), Point 3, Article 7 of Regulamento No. 950/2019, of December 16th);

    3.1 Preferred criteria

    a) Participation in R&D projects (including those leading to the PhD) using quantitative, qualitative, and/or participatory action research methodologies in educational contexts;

    b) Knowledge and experience in the use of qualitative research methodologies, particularly interviews and focus groups;

    c) Knowledge and experience in using quantitative research methodologies to assess the psychometric properties of assessment tools;

    d) Knowledge and experience in conducting systematic reviews or scoping literature reviews;

    e) (Co)authorship of scientific publications indexed in Scopus/SCImaho Journal Rank and/or Journal Citation Reports (JCR) in the field of education and/or other social sciences;

    f) Proficiency in English (to be assessed through the motivation letter, written in English, and during the interview, which will be partially conducted in English).


    Selection process

    4.1. Selection method and evaluation criteria 

    The selection process will involve the following elements:

    An evaluation of applicant’s curriculum (70%) and Interview (30%), which will be partially conducted in English.

    1) Curriculum Evaluation (70%) will be scored from 0 to 100 points based on the following criteria: 

    a) Academic/professional background and its relevance to the project's activities (25%);

    b) Experience in participation in R&D projects, including those leading to the PhD (15%);

    c) Proven knowledge and experience in data collection and analysis methods using qualitative methodologies (30%);

    d) Experience in conducting and publishing systematic reviews or scoping literature reviews (10%);

    e) (Co)authorship of scientific publications indexed in Scopus/SCImaho Journal Rank and/or Journal Citation Reports (JCR) in the field of education and/or other social sciences (10%);

    f) Motivation and interest in the project’s theme (10%).

     

    2) Selection interview for the evaluation of skills, scored from 0 to 100 points (30%). It will be conducted with the top three candidates from the curriculum evaluation, provided they score 40 or higher.

    a) Communication skills and verbal fluency in Portuguese and English (40%);

    b) Specific knowledge for the execution of the work plan (50%);

    c) Motivation and interest in the project’s theme (10%).

    4.3. Method of publication/notification of results

    The results of the call will be communicated to applicants, by email, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications.

     

    4.4. Selection reserve list, if applicable

    If, after the candidate ranking procedure, the candidate ranked in first position is not available to fill the vacancy, the candidate ranked second will be considered, and so on, successively, if the Selection Panel sees fit. The reserve list may be applied in this way up to 20 working days after the date on which the Selection Panel approved the minutes with the candidates' rankings.

     

    4.5. Deadlines and procedures for complaints and appeals

    If the outcome of the scholarship call is deemed unfavourable, applicants have a period of 10 working days after the publication of results to comment, if they wish, during a preliminary hearing of interested parties, under the terms given in the Code for Administrative Procedure. The final decision will be taken after the preliminary hearing and communicated by email. After this notification, a complaint may be lodged, within 15 days, to the email address used for notification, or an appeal made to the highest body of the funding entity within 30 working days.

    All notifications to applicants will be made to the email address used to submit their candidatures.

    The selected candidate will work in at the Centro de Investigação em Psicologia para o Desenvolvimento (CIPD), at Fundação Minerva – Cultura – Ensino e Investigação Científica/ Universidade Lusíada - Porto, under the scientific supervision of Prof. Doutor Richard Inman. In some circumstances, the fellow may need to travel to other locations to collect data for research purposes.
