A call for applications is open for one Research Initiation Grant (BII) within the scope of the project "CERTRA- Desenvolvimento de Cadeias de Valor de Cereais Tradicionais para uma Alimentação Sustentável em Portugal", with financing frok the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) Program, under the following conditions:

Scientific area: 

Biological sciences. 

Admission requirements:

The candidate must:

 -Hold a degree in Biotechnology, Biotechnological Engineering, or a related field; 

-Be enrolled in a master's program in Biotechnology or a related field; 

-Have proficiency in the Portuguese language (written and oral communication).

Work plan:

The main tasks of this plan are: 

-Bibliographical research and systematic review process; 

-Isolation and cultivation of microorganisms from mother dough of different origins; 

-Identification of the isolated microorganisms; 

-Application of conventional techniques and molecular biology techniques; 

-Dissemination and exploitation of the results obtained in the work.

Goals:

Isolation, identification and characterization of microorganisms from mother dough.

Workplace and scientific orientation:

The work will be carried out in the microbiology laboratory and chemical analysis laboratory at ESA-IPB, under the scientific supervision of Luís G. Dias and Maria Letícia Estevinho (Mountain Research Center).

Duration of the grant:

The scholarship will have an initial duration of 6 months, starting on 01/04/2025 (non-renewable).

Amount of the mounthly maintenance allowance:

The fellow will benefit from a grant of €651,12, according to the table of values of the grants awarded by FCT, I.P. in thecountry. Grant holders will be covered by personal accident insurance and, if they are not covered by any social protectionscheme, they can ensure that they exercise their right to social security by joining the voluntary social insurance scheme,under the terms of the terms set out in the Code of Contributory Regimes of the Social Security System. The grant will bepaid monthly by bank transfer.

Selection methods and how they will be assessed:

The selection methods to be used will be as follows: 

1) Curriculum evaluation and its suitability for the project in question (60%); 

2) Experience in laboratory work (20%). 

3) Experience in microbiology (20%). 

The jury may not award the grant if the candidates' marks are lower than 9.5 (on a scale of 0 to 20).

Benefits

The fellow will benefit from a grant of €651,12,as per the table of remuneration of FCT,I.P..
The fellow will also benefit from personal accident insurance, and if not included in any social security protocol, may adhereto the Portuguese Social Security through the Seguro Social Voluntário (Voluntary Social Security), in the terms presentinthePortuguese Código dos Regimes Contributivos do Sistema Previdencial de Segurança Social. The monthly grant will bepaid by bank transfer.

Selection process

The selection methods to be utilized will be as follows: 

1) Curriculum assessment and its relevance to the project at hand (60%); 

2) Laboratory work experience (20%); 

3) Microbiology experience (20%). 

The jury may not award the scholarship if the candidates' classification is lower than 9.5 (on a scale of 0 to 20).

If the decision to be taken is unfavorable to the granting of the requested scholarship, the candidates have a period of 10working days, after the date of publication of the evaluation results, to express their opinion, if desired, in a prior hearing,under the terms provided for in the Code of the Administrative Procedure. An appeal may be filed against the final decisionto the President of the IPB within 15 working days after the respective notification.

Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries requirerecognition by a Portuguese Institution inaccordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th and Ordinance No.33/2019, of January25th. The presentation of recognition is mandatory for the signing of the contract.
