The Award was established in 2022 and is funded by the New Zealand Audiological Society, the professional body for audiologists and audiometrists in New Zealand.

The intention of the Award is to encourage and support Māori students enrolling in the first year of a Master of Audiology programme in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland.
