About the scholarship
The David Klingberg Memorial Scholarship was created in partnership with the scholarship donor, Wagstaff Piling Pty Ltd, an Australian-owned specialist foundation engineering contractor headquartered in Ashgrove, Queensland, that operates throughout Australia.
The scholarship honours David Klingberg, a valued Wagstaff Piling team member who died doing the work he loved in June, 2018. With 30 years’ field experience, David was known for his expertise in Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA) testing, and was skilled in the art of connecting the science of stress waves to real-world engineering solutions. David is also fondly remembered for his honesty and integrity, and as a patient teacher and mentor to many young engineers.
At the forefront of his field internationally, David contributed widely to conferences, seminars and to the development of the innovative 2009 Australian Piling Code.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, David excelled in many areas. He was admired for his academic achievements and his success in numerous sporting endeavours including football, golf, netball, ten pin bowling, cycling, skiing and distance running. David was a modest man who embraced life and enjoyed four-wheel driving, camping, fishing and singing in his church choir.
The David Klingberg Memorial Scholarship was created to foster the education of future leaders of industries related to civil engineering while honouring a humble and innovative leader of the profession.
Scholarship donor Wagstaff Piling Pty Ltd was formed by John Wagstaff in 1980 and has completed more than 5600 projects, encompassing all types of foundations, in a variety of ground conditions, for a wide range of civil engineering and building applications.
